Med-Tek Foliar RX
Just what the Doctor Ordered!
In Brief
Med Tek Foliar RX is a broad spectrum nutrient foliar spray which provides a balanced array of macro and micro elements developed to restore and optimise tissue nutrients where plants are under nutrient stress.
Additionally, Foliar RX is designed to activate the plant’s defence system and increase the amount of light your plants can assimilate through utilising triacontanol.
Foliar RX restores and rebalances tissue nutrients, alleviates plant stress and accelerates photosynthesis within hours of application.
About
Contains non-ionic surfactants to aid dispersion and plant/leaf/cell absorption
Contains Triacontanol
Contains chelated calcium and magnesium
Contains chelated micronutrients
Restoring the balance through a full spectrum foliar booster
Plants require 17 essential elements to grow. They obtain hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), and carbon (C) via the air that surrounds them. The other 14 essential plant nutrients need to be supplied to plants via the root zone or via foliar sprays. These are the macronutrients (needed in relatively large quantities) of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, calcium and magnesium, and the micronutrients (needed in small quantities) of iron, manganese, zinc, boron, copper, molybdenum, chloride and nickel.
Each of these specific nutrient ions has an ionic sufficiency range in which plant growth is optimised. The uptake and utilisation of nutrients depend not only on the quantities but also on the ratios among nutrient types. If a particular nutrient is deficient, yields can be negatively impacted. A similar reduction in plant growth can arise when a particular nutrient is present at a concentration that is too high. All the nutrient ion types need to be within their respective ranges if plant productivity is to be optimised. Departure from these optimal levels in any of the nutrient ion types will have an influence on all the others as well.
Many of the foliar sprays sold through the hydroponics sector are little more than Cal-Mag (Ca and Mg) sprays with some Nitrate N (largely because manufacturers use relatively cheap to purchase calcium and magnesium nitrate in their foliar products resulting in Nitrate N being included in the formula) along with perhaps some iron (Fe). This is great if you are applying foliar sprays in order to correct Ca, Mg, N and Fe deficiencies, but what happens if your plants are deficient in other key essential nutrients?
Foliar RX was carefully crafted using all of the essential plant nutrients in both chelated and non-chelated forms. Foliar RX delivers not only calcium, magnesium, nitrogen and iron to your plants but also phosphorous, potassium, manganese, zinc, boron, copper, molybdenum, cobalt and nickel.
Thus, the key to Foliar RX – and what makes it different from most of the competitors’ formulas – is that it was developed to maintain and restore the balance of all of the essential plant nutrients required to optimise plant growth.
Foliar RX Contains Surfactants
In order for foliar fertilisation to be successful the nutrients must be able to penetrate the outer protective layer of the leaf and absorbed through the cuticle, stomata, trichomes, or other epidermal structures to reach the internal cells of the plant.
Foliar RX contains high quality non-ionic surfactants which work by lowering the surface tension of the formulation and improve spreading and adhesion of the fertilizer on the leaf surface and therefore, increase the leaf area in contact with the fertilizer. Surfactants also penetrate the plant cuticle or increase the water conductance of the cuticle and as a result increase the rate of foliar uptake This ensures the fertilisers in Foliar RX are able to get to where they are most needed… into the internal tissues of the plant.
Foliar RX Recommended Usage Rate
Crop Booster: use at a rate of 25ml/L spray every 7 – 10 days
Curative: where symptoms of a nutrient deficiency are apparent. Use at 100ml/L for 1 application and spray every 7 days thereafter using 50ml/L
Mineral nutrient foliar sprays are best absorbed at a slightly acidic pH. Before application set pH of the spray solution at 5.5 – 6.0. Apply liberally to undersides and tops of leaves until runoff.
Take care to ensure spray drift does not come into contact with electrical fixtures, light bulbs and/or LEDs. Some growers raise the lights when spraying to ensure spray drift does not make contact with bulbs or LEDs.
Tank Mixing with other Ingredients
No known compatibility issues with other ingredients commonly used in foliar spraying. If combining with other ingredients in tank mixing, always jar test first.
EC in Solution at given ml/L usage rates
Tests conducted using distilled/demineralized water
25 ml/L = 0.6 EC
50 ml/L = 1.1 EC
100 ml/L =2.1 EC
Foliar Spraying Tips
To avoid plant/leaf burning (phytotoxicity) always run a spot test with any given foliar spray or tank mix you intend to spray, mimicking the exact same conditions and application rates you will apply to the entire crop. Spot testing refers to spraying one or two plants and waiting a few days (to check for signs of burning) prior to spraying the entire crop. Preliminary applications should be made at the same time of day, and by the same method as when all plants are treated. All the conditions should be as nearly the same as possible in the preliminary tests as when all plants are sprayed.
- The best time to apply Foliar RX is just prior to the lights coming on or very soon (within 10 – 15 minutes) after the lights come on. Take care to ensure spray drift does not come into contact with electrical fixtures, light bulbs and/or LEDs. Some growers raise the lights when spraying to ensure spray drift does not make contact with bulbs or LEDs.
- Never spray plants when their leaf tissue is warm (e.g. after lights have been on for two to three hours) because this will cause tissue burning. Foliar feeding is not recommended when the temperature exceeds 25°C (77°F).
- Do not apply under conditions which will not promote drying. Plants sprayed when cool, humid conditions exist for extended periods will remain wet for long periods of time and increase the probability of injury. This is one of the reasons plants sprayed under greenhouse or grow room conditions are more likely to be damaged.
- Never spray plants when they are in need of water. Wilted or dry plants are extremely sensitive to spray injury. Always fertigate plants 2-4-hours prior to spraying (substrate dependent) to ensure good leaf water status.
pH adjust Foliar RX to 5.5 – 6.0 before spraying. Apply liberally to tops and undersides of leaves until runoff.
